Did yesterday really happen?

Waking up this morning, before turning on the tv, the only evidence there is of yesterday's horrific disaster was our missing lamp (it was gone when we got back to our room) and our sore feet/knees.  We are with Tomo-san now (family friend who came in from Nagano to meet us yesterday), just trying to figure out what we're doing today.

With nothing new to report at the moment, I thought I'd upload some of my photos for you guys to see.  We were so fortunate to be in Tokyo where the damage was minimal and the mood seemed calm for the most part.

Local reaction to the quake
Some women were kneeling so they wouldn't fall over
Extent of the damage in Asakusa ... some bricks falling off buildings
This older building lost some of it's siding
The store owners immediately began clean-up efforts
This was a little further south, maybe towards Akihabara, some broken windows and cracked sidewalks
With cell service down, people crowded around televisions to get live coverage of the disaster
There were people streaming out into the streets from the nearby buildings and subways
People with nowhere to go settled down wherever they could for the night, like these people in the basement of McDonalds
Displaced commuters in our hotel lobby
Hard to tell that there are thousands upon thousands of people lined up down the street trying to get a spot on the bus since trains are cancelled. This is just south of Tokyo Station (main hub in Tokyo) in the Ginza area.
Some offices issued hard hats for worker safety.
People are camped out at the train stations with nowhere to go.

We were so fortunate to be with our good friend Tomo Misawa for the evening, he kept our minds off what was going on and made sure we were ok and comfortable before leaving us in our room.  We are spending the day with him today, so we are in good hands.

Signing out for now, will of course keep you updated if we hear anything else.  In the meantime, thank you for your outpouring of support from home.  I know you're all worried about us but we're ok, honestly.  Please send your love and support to those who were more deeply affected by this terrible tragedy.  They are going to need it more than we do right now.

xoxo love Kris and Marty
